DELECTABLE DUBLIN – MY FAVOURITE EATERIES IN THE CITY

I may have only had three days in Dublin but I’d like to think I did some pretty decent and in-depth research when it came to satisfying my stomach! I am now confident in being able to direct you to some of the best spots to grab some food or Guinness in the city. Here are my favourite eateries in Dublin…

Leo Burdock’s Fish and Chips

For : lunch / post-pub munchies

Now I know what you’re thinking… fish and chips? What could possibly be so special about fish and chips?

Trust me when it comes to Leo Burdock. Just try it and then get back to me! I would HIGHLY recommend the curry sauce and smoked cod (I’m not mentioning the chips as they’re just a given).

And while you’re there be sure to check out their ‘Hall Of Fame’ which showcases all the celebrities and notable public figures who have visited them over the years.

Brother Hubbard

For: breakfast/ brunch/ coffee

Phil Rosenthal recommended this place during his Netflix series ‘Somebody Feed Phil’. There are two Brother Hubbard’sin the city centre but we went to the one on Capel Street (north of Dublin).

What I loved about this place is that you’re instantly greeted by the owner and made to feel at home, which for me really set the tone for the sort of eatery it was and the atmosphere they were going for.

To top it off, the food here is BEYOND GOOD. Portions are generous to say the least and everything is beautifully presented but not to the point where taste is compromised. I would go back in a heartbeat.

Chameleon

For: dinner

My boyfriend and I love Asian food so when we were stuck for dinner plans and passed by Chameleon who offered an Indonesian inspired menu we were inspired to make a reservation.

You can essentially pick and mix your meal but we went for a set menu accompanied by a couple of tapas, and honestly that is MORE than enough for two! The beef rendang and the short rib were particular highlights!

The interior upstairs is gorgeous and I could definitely see myself booking out a place like this for a big birthday dinner, lounging on the cosy cushions and surrounded by fairy lights.

Murphy’s Ice Cream

For: anytime!

Murphy’s ice cream  is all about making your taste buds do a double take with their incredible innovation of flavours, such as Dingle Gin and Irish Brown Bread. It may sound bizarre but it WORKS.

I find it exciting when I try something that sounds like it will taste awful (bread and ice cream?) but then the reality knocks you for six. I tried 4 of the available 12 flavours and I have to say the quality is just ridiculously good.

Rest assured, there are some more recognisable flavour combos out there too.

Bubble Waffle Factory

For: those with a sweet tooth

Down a narrow side street you will find a magical alcove in the wall that is home to The Bubble Waffle Factory, selling two of my favourite things – bubble tea and bubble waffles.

If you haven’t tried either then SHAME ON YOU. Bubble waffles are (as the name suggests) warm and soft waffles that have a circular, bubble design and can be topped with all manner of delicious things like ice cream, fruit, sweet sauces and chocolate. Bubble tea is an East Asian drink that is best tasted rather than described so be sure to do so.

I loved this little spot as it lets you have a break from walking about and has a really quirky vibe, with lots of messages pasted to the walls on post-it’s. Adorable.

The Temple Bar

For: the best Irish coffee you’ll ever have

Hands down the most delicious and most potent Irish coffee EVER. Just don’t mix it with Guinness unless you’re looking for a very sore head.

Lolly and Cooks

For: snacking

Just in case you didn’t already know, I am a HUGE Anthony Bourdain fan and when I saw him chowing down on a Lolly and Cooks sausage roll in his show ‘The Layover’ I was hell bent on following in his footsteps and trying one for myself.

It ain’t fancy or pretty to eat, but it’s just so warm and delicious…. I’ve been dreaming of that sausage roll since. Bourdain has never failed me with a recommendation yet!

Until next time,

Lica xoxo
